PARA CUATRO JINETES

“We have been studying the history of Spanish dance and folklore all our lives and, in some sense, it has always seemed alien to us.To domesticate and academise life, celebration, customs, is always a complex task. But lately, perhaps because we have gained some distance from the school, we have been falling in love again with this body that searches, that breaks down, that desperately tries to join other bodies, over and over again, through the centuries

We will never fully know how it was danced, and perhaps we no longer care. And perhaps, it has ceased to matter to us. Is it possible that two centuries ago sang to rockets that had not yet been invented?Does a tattoo stay on the body for more than three thousand years? Tonight at least it does.”

FOLKLORE CONNECTION Kike Arias

With her dance company Mucha Muchacha, Martí creates this dance piece for theatre by putting at the centre a difficult question to answer: "what will the dance of the future be?”.

Under this premise, she enters a creative universe of folklore, an immense, mysterious and often confusing place, widened by legends, rites, festivals and dances that have been created around it throughout history, to bring a work with a transgressive, feminist, propositional and rebellious language.
